Rehydrogenation of Sodium Borates to Close the NaBH4-H2 Cycle: A Review

In 2007, the US Department of Energy recommended a no-go on NaBH4 hydrolysis for onboard applications; however, concept NaBH4-H2-PEMFC system has potential to become primary source on-demand power supply. Despite many efforts study this technology, most published papers focus catalytic performance. Nevertheless, development practical reaction close NaBH4-H2 cycle remains critical issue. Therefore, work provides an overview research progress solutions by-product rehydrogenation leading regeneration with economic potential. It is first compare and analyze main types processes regenerate NaBH4: thermo-, mechano-, electrochemical. Moreover, it considers report by Demirci et al. sodium borohydride hydrolysis. The literature already reported efficient regeneration; still need more improvements. noteworthy that transition clean methods, through years, was observed.
